SomaYoga Therapy
SomaYoga Therapy uses the blend of Thomas Hanna Somatics, Therapeutic Yoga, Ayurveda—daily routines to keep you in a state of Self-Healing, and Classic Yoga— the 8 limbs of Yoga for Self-Realization.
Soma is the Greek word for the first person experience of body, mind and spirit. The Greeks believed that by separating these parts of ourselves into different words, we created a separation among ourselves. SomaYoga intends to unify these parts of our being, so we can realize and live out our full potential.
SomaYoga Therapy uses the neuroscience of Thomas Hanna’s Somatics to reeducate the somatic motor loop of the cortex and the nervous system and muscles to bring the soma out of habitual patterns that are prohibiting the soma’s full potential. It allows the soma to release chronically held tension and reflexes so that the seven layers of the tissues can function optimally. Therapeutic Yoga stabilizes this new mobility and range of motion with functional movement patterns. And Classic Yoga brings the 8 limbs of Yoga (Self-Realization) forward to strengthen the new stabilized mobility in the soma. The 8 Limbs of Yoga include: skillful living with self and others, asanas, breath awareness, mind & yogic maps, harnessing of the mind and sense cognitions, inner awareness, concentration, focus, and enlightened living to guide you out of suffering including acute or chronic pain into being seated in your essential nature of ease and happiness.
This blend of somatic movement, therapeutic yoga, and classic Yoga awakens an individuals brain-body connection inviting consciousness to rest with more ease throughout the Soma. By lifting traumas, veils, afflictions, and thought patterns that limit a Soma, and learning new ways to stimulate, sustain, nourish, or soothe the cognitive and action senses of a Soma, life becomes more balanced and harmonized from the inside out, and ease and performance returns.
This practice invites you to become conscious, curious, new and novel in your movement patterns, and to slow down to gain freedom faster before increasing load and complexity. Counter-culturally, by finding the right amount of effort, you will gain more spaciousness in your soma, reeducate the cortex, and bring greater awareness to your daily living and habits that lead you toward full potential and optimal health. Because the movements are guided from within SomaYoga Therapy is accessible to everybody at every age.
